Monday, September 27

Today, everyone needs to continue working on uploading, tagging and sorting photos online! There are folders set up for each year, as well as some for different clubs. Photos that are doubles need to be deleted from the system.

This week, we will be spending time learning how to create pages and copping photos. You will be required to design a practice page.

Finding & Uploading Photographs

Finding pictures for the yearbook is an on-going task. Your first step should be to check the hard drive of your computer. Search for photos to upload to yearbook ave.

There are also a lot of photos on the server. You can find them on my public folder or under Christiana Saunders' public folder.

How to sign onto the server:
1. On the desktop, go to "Go" in the top toolbar. Choose "Connect to Server."
2. Connect to afp://10.65.196.64
3. Sign in as a Guest and click connect
4. Join the "homdirs"and go under "faculty"
5. 99mccartneya
6. Go to public folder
7. CHS Pictures
To get to Christiana's photos, go to 2010 and look for Saunders. Her pictures will be in her public folder.

Once the photos are on yearbook ave, they will be in the Staff Inbox. You can also move photos from the Image Share into the Staff Inbox. From the Staff Inbox, TAG the photos. This will help us keep track of how many times each person appears in the yearbook! Also, begin organizing the photos based on what section of the yearbook they will appear. This will help us avoid using the same photo twice.

Keep taking pictures! You can upload them on your own to the imageshare website, or you can bring your camera in to school. The more pictures, the better the yearbook. :)

Monday, September 20

Today, you must finish your Yearbook Theme project!!

This is what you should have ready to present to the class tomorrow:
1. A one-page proposal explaining your theme and how it will appear throughout the main pages in the yearbook. Your theme should have visual and verbal elements.
2. A complete page ladder (this can be in pencil) that shows how you will organize and divide up the yearbook.
3. Sample pages: a title page, section dividers
4. A sketch of a two-tone cover, or your selection from the covers available.

See me for help! Don't get bogged down trying to figure out the website tools. All you need is a rough draft - a creative and unifying theme is what you should be working towards!

Yearbook Brainstorm - What should we highlight about CHS?

1. With a partner, answer the following questions on a sheet of loose leaf. Brainstorm whatever you can think of about CHS and about the Class of 2011. What makes your school unique? What makes your class unique? What makes you stand out?
  • a school of independence and liberty
  • a lot of freedom for students
  • dual enrollment
  • leave for lunch
  • court room
  • teacher as dean
  • "Our school is unique because although we lack things like a real lunch room, a gym, or an auditorium, we make up for it by having other unique things that other schools don't have like no uniform, going out for lunch, and trips around the city. As the Class of 2011, I think we stand out because we get to improve upon the first graduating class and make it ten times better."
  • "We are unique because we have a voice."
  • "our class is the most unique because we are the most outgoing and that makes us stand out because every other class is quieter. our school is unique because both our faulculty and and student body work together to make the rules for the school. we stand out because our class is the most outgoing and involved, plus once we graduate half of our basketball team is going with us."
  • " The thing that makes our class unique is that though we were not the first class we are able to learn from their mistakes. We have the ability to not follow in their footsteps ant critique what we think they did poorly at."

Also we had the ability to change our uniform, so the only uniform we really have is collared shirt. We also have a blocked schedule so we only have four classes. We also receive more credits than other schools do.  We are sponsored by various companies."

Brainstorming a Theme

Today, we are going to focus on concepts and themes for the yearbook. The #1 critique of the 2010 yearbook was that the colors and formats didn't match. In order to make the 2011 yearbook even better, we need to develop a theme that will continue throughout the book.

A yearbook theme can be developed through words, pictures and colors. We can use a quote or idea that continues throughout the book, and a color scheme that supports the mood and tone of the theme.

  1. With a partner, answer the following questions on a sheet of loose leaf. Brainstorm whatever you can think of about CHS and about the Class of 2011. What makes your school unique? What makes your class unique? What makes you stand out?
  2. What makes Constitution High School unique and different? What made you decide to come to CHS? (Don’t feel pressured to give a cheesy answer. Be honest – what do you and your peers believe that makes CHS different?
  3. What events, people or clubs best characterize CHS? Why?
  4. What unique characteristics does your class display? What makes your class stand out?
  5. What shared experiences has you class had? What memories stick out?
  6. Who are the most interesting people in your class? Why?
  7. What are some of your favorite memories at CHS?

After you have brainstormed, visit the following websites. Write down the ideas that you like!!!

View the powerpoint on this site. It goes along with the photocopies we went over today. The notes under the powerpoint explain the theme concepts. If you like a particular slide, write down the slide number.

Visit this website and look at actual themes from other yearbooks.

Write down ideas that you like, but keep in mind that we are somewhat limited in cover choices.

These websites are slightly dated, but they offer some good ideas for working with a verbal theme.
