Analyzing Composition in Photos

1. Be familiar with the following terms. Copy the definitions from the packet.

2. Look through the magazines. Find three photos that you find visually engaging. Tape them to a separate sheet of paper and answer the following questions.
  • What do you like about the photo?
  • What elements of composition can you find in the photo? How do these elements of composition work together to engage the viewer?
  • What story does the photo tell? What details can you gain from the photo that would be difficult to explain through writing?
